The photographs that the astronaut Luca Parmitano has been publishing recently on his Facebook page are pictures of pure emotion, too. A member of the Expedition 36 mission, he took off from the Baikonur cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on May 28 and is due to return to earth in November. Now, Parmitano is orbiting 400 kilometers (248 miles) higher than Nadar's balloon flew. During work breaks he has shot these photographs through what he calls "the window on the world" and he is sharing them with his wide circle of Facebook friends, complete with short captions.
Photographs of superhuman serenity, which I have chosen and post in reverse chronological order. I will update them until the end of the mission.
